NGO Work
THREEafrica
THREEafrica is a fair trade and non-profit NGO that specializes in selling handmade Malawian clothing and crafts. All of the profit from sales goes directly into establishing educational funds for young Malawian girls so that they can attend secondary school. I have been working with THREEafrica since the fall of 2013 as a photographer and website developer. The photography I've beed doing for this organization includes photo documentation of activity in Malawi as well as commercial shots of the items for marketing, and promotional purposes.
The SCA Pittsburgh
The Student Conservation Association is an American organization that promotes and teaches conservation and environmentally responsible practices among students and youth across the country. During the summers of 2013 and 2014 I worked with the Pittsburgh branch of the SCA documenting work that local park crews were doing in many of Pittsburgh's large parks. Work included everything from trail maintenance to planting and gardening, to erosion prevention. The photos in this portfolio depict the activity in Pittsburgh parks and neighborhoods.
iDE Ethiopia
For roughly ten months in 2012 and 2013 I worked with iDE Ethiopia taking photos and developing a new website, among other communications-related tasks. iDE Ethiopia is an agricultural development NGO that works with small scale farmers across many regions of Ethiopia and utilizes low cost, effective technologies and agricultural inputs (manual water pumps, micro-financing, robust seed varieties) in order to secure income and nutrition for rural Ethiopian farming communities.
